I have seen many writers struggle while writing comedy. Whenever a topic is given to them, they take a long time to come up with a comedy script or a joke about it. Some people might have trouble starting while others seem to get stuck half-way through their writing.
Comedy Can be Written in Many Ways
There are many ways to write a comedy script or a bunch of jokes on just a single topic. One can come up with a variety of versions of the same comedy script or joke.
If you select a topic, say computers, to a bunch of writers in a room and ask them to write jokes on the topic for about 15 minutes, different writers will dish out different kinds of jokes about computers. Some may evoke laughter while others may not. However, the thing you want to notice here is that the number of jokes written by each writer will vary. Some may be able to write 10 to 20 different jokes in that time period while others may struggle to even come up with 1 or 2.
How Do Some People Write Quickly?
You may wonder how some of them can write so many jokes in such a short time. In spite of being written so quickly, most of those jokes would be funny even though the degree may vary. Surely, they are not blessed with the ability to write quickly as soon as they are born. They don’t have any magic to produce those jokes in such a quick time.
The main reason why they are able to write comedy so quickly is that they have mastered a process of writing that is effective. They have practiced the writing process a lot in their free time. Of course, instinct plays a big part in writing jokes. But they would precisely know how to weave their instincts into their writing process. Some of the popular quotes from comedy plays were written by writers using a particular process of their own.
Comedy Writing Skills Can be Acquired
I had recently been to a local radio station. While I was on air, I cracked a joke on something that was being talked about in the background by others in the station. The joke turned out to be very funny, and almost everyone in the studio enjoyed it. The D.J. of the radio station was very surprised at my ability to crack jokes spontaneously, and wished he had the skills to do the same.
I immediately told the D.J. that even he can get skillful at cracking jokes. It is not something I was born with. I learned the skills of writing comedy through practice.
The Mind Needs to Connect With the Brain
Integrating your mind with your brain is the most important part of acquiring the ability to write comedy scripts quickly. The mind is the part which generates instinctive ideas whereas the brain controls the core processes of putting your thoughts into action through a series of sequential steps which helps you write quicker. So, to be able to write efficiently, you should be able to streamline the working of your mind and your brain so that they interact with each other effectively.
